90 Second Launch Spot - Official Transformers: Fall of Cybertron Game Video

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is the sequel to War for Cybertron,

the highest rated Transformers game ever. Coming Fall 2012 for Xbox 360, PS3, & PC. Join the epic battle for survival as the Autobots take their last stand to defend their legendary home planet from the Decepticons.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron transports you to the final days of the planet

Cybertron where you will experience the darkest hours of the apocalyptic war between the Autobots and Decepticons. Embark on an adrenaline-fueled journey through a wide range of missions and massive environments designed around each character's unique abilities. With the stakes higher than ever before, you play as a variety of Transformers, including Grimlock's nearly indestructible T-Rex form and the legendary Combaticons forming into the colossal Bruticus. Fight through both sides of the Transformers' most epic battles leading to their legendary exodus from their homeworld.

Fall of Cybertron takes place millions of years before the Transformers land on Earth

(all the G1 stuff), so High Moon had to come up with a whole new story to explain the Dinobots' existence on Cybertron. Well, they did, and it's actually pretty cool.

During the demo, we were able to see the Dinobots leader, Grimlock, in action. Interestingly, Grimlock doesn't actually have guns at his disposal, and his design seems to follow a fantasy warrior or barbarian archetype. Armed with an Energon sword and shield, his combat style is very up close and personally, and unlike other Transformers, he can't actually change into his alternate form at will. Instead, Grimlock has a resource meter, "Rage," which will accumulate in battle; maxing this meter out allows him to change into a T-Rex, up until the meter drains out.

Other 'bots will also have their own style, which shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who played WFC. Various parts of the game will assign players to different Transformers on either side of the conflict, and High Moon takes full advantage of every character's uniqueness. Starscream, for instance, can stealth around and attach bombs to his targets, while Jazz's grappling tool lets him cross larger distances quickly.

The other highlight was Metroplex, who appears during a gameplay sequence as nothing more than a background object, tearing through the horizon of buildings and Decepticons... up until Optimus (Peter Cullen) starts commanding him around. Hey, the guy did pledge himself to the last Prime. The scale of this city-sized Autobot is incredible when seen in-game, and that seems to be a common theme in Fall of Cybertron: size matters. The environments we saw were all designed to reflect Cybertron's massive scale, and players will be navigating in more ways than just running or driving. As before, kiosks all over the maps let you switch or buy weapons and upgrades

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. Sequel to Transformers: War for Cybertron, released 2010.

Cybertron is definitely, well, falling, due to the corruption of Dark Energon and the war between the Autobots and Decepticons.

Of course, with the new story, new weapons, new... well, everything, we can also expect (and have gotten) new characters. Or at least, characters from previous continuities with a fresh coat of paint, sometimes some personality tweaks (sometimes an entirely new vehicle mode). We already have a decent line-up so far, with the likes of Cliffjumper, Wheeljack, and the Dinobots for the Autobots, and... well, we now have the entire Combaticon subgroup for the Decepticons (complete with "MERGE TO FORM BRUTICUS!")

Obviously, everyone probably has ideas on what older Transformer characters they'd like to see in the game (whether they already exist in the "aligned continuity family" or not). Myself included. Hence, the creation of this top ten.

Some may already have a counterpart within the continuity family, others may have yet to be included (assuming they ever will be). But, hey, its just my thoughts on who I'd like to see as playable characters, for whichever reason. Although, with the characters in Fall of Cybertron becoming more specialized, maybe we'll see them use some of their trademark abilities? Well, who knows if we'll see them at all. But anyhoo, on with the list.
